PROBLEM STATEMENT

Parking out can be a pain when you realise that another vehicle has parked narrow that it is blocking your own vehicle's door. This is not uncommon in narrow parking garages or spaces. But some garages are also so little that getting in and out is a hassle and can sometimes result in scratches.

PROJECT GOALS

– Defuse awkward parking situations

– Remote-controlled parking and unparking from outside the vehicle

– Designing the next generation of the app

APPROACH

First, we analysed the user feedback on the previous version of the app. Then, together with the stakeholders and contact persons, we created the concept consisting of user flows, wireframes and prototypes. After continuous user testing, we created the initial UI design.

A short screen record of an early draft of the prototype outlined the user flow and information architecture.

Finally, inaction on Youtube

Created variants (high-fi) for the splash screen and engine start screen in the app.

LEARNINGS & CONCLUSION

Until the first contact with real users, a use case was not clear to me. It was a challenge to visualise complex interrelationships and systems in the vehicle. Especially error handling inside the new S-Class was interesting and requires a lot of clarification and communication.
